Having 20 years behind me in the spa industry, I’ve learned the importance of having regular facials. I find that many people treat themselves to one every year, not realizing that a regular visit is necessary to get the results they’re looking for. Part of my job is to make sure our guests know why to have a facial, which one best suits their skin care needs, and what to do at home to maintain results. I’m here to help!
When the seasons change, it is especially important to give your skin care regime a change up by having a facial and switching your products to something lighter.
In the same way that your body requires regular exercise and a continuously healthy diet to make an impact on your health and body’s well-being, routine facials are the most successful at refreshing and maintaining your skin’s natural glow. Although one treatment can leave you with immediate improvements to the look and feel of your skin, treating yourself to a series of facial treatments will really give you noticeable, long-term effects.
Making facials an active part of your beauty and wellness regime will ensure that your skin is protected from the elements and signs of aging, and will clear up blemishes and toxins to maintain smooth, fresh looking skin. And, since regular facials stimulate the production of collagen, you’ll leave each time with an illuminated complexion, a youthful, even skin tone and that enviable healthy glow.
At Elmwood Spa, we have over 30 Spa Care Experts in aesthetics devoted to promoting healthy skin. They will make an accurate assessment of what your skin requires to look its best. And, with the high quality serums, masques and steamers used during each treatment, they offer a highly professional service that is more successful than any at-home DIY facial.
This is especially important when doing things like the dreaded extraction: our well-trained Aestheticians are able to best remove unwanted bacteria without leaving scars, so as to endorse quicker healing and improve your skin’s condition overall.
Besides this, facials are a great way to relax! Each Elmwood Spa facial with one of our Spa Care Experts involves a face, hand and neck massage; and your choice of a foot or scalp massage to loosen up any tension, making facials an excellent de-stressor.
Though without proper care, the winter months might leave your skin feeling dull and dried out, when spring strikes, your skin changes – for example, you might notice that your skin’s natural oil is more noticeable and reproduces quicker in the spring and summertime.
That’s why it’s not a good idea to use the same skincare regime that worked well for you during the winter; the changing balance of your skin in the following months just doesn’t need the heaviness of winter creams and cleansers.
This makes spring the perfect time to jumpstart your skincare regime. And to help you get started, we are offering a complimentary ElmLine Starter Kit (includes a cleansing cream, serum, day cream, AHA exfoliator, and shower gel) when you pre-book and pre-pay for any two ElmLine Facials. Find out more.
Other than treating yourself to regular facials, the most important thing you can do to have great looking skin day in, day out is supplementing your facials with a daily at-home regime. Here are some basics:
1. Cleanse every day in the morning and evening to remove oily residue, make-up and impurities from the skin.
2. Exfoliate twice a week to stimulate circulation and remove dead skin cells from the surface to reveal younger and healthier looking skin.
3. Tone to remove excess cleanser that’s left on the skin; cleans out pores, balances and restores the skin’s natural PH level.
4. Apply Serum at night before you moisturize. It is absorbed into the skin at a deeper level.
5. Moisturize to decrease dehydration.
If you’re not sure which products will best serve your skin, book an appointment with your Spa Care Expert to arrange for a consultation – they’ll show you how to maintain an active at-home skincare plan to prolong the effects of each facial you have.
