On Tuesday 18th October, Elmwood Spa hosted a private reception unveiling Catharine Somerville’s newest art exhibit Into the Wild. It was an exquisite and philanthropic evening where guests took in the beauty of an over 80 piece collection. Throughout the evening, Canadian up-and-coming violinist Ellen Daly delighted guests with her musical talents. A silent auction was hosted, where 100% of the proceeds were donated to the YWCA Elm Center and Irma Brydson Place, a 300-bed affordable housing project for low-income women and their families, women with mental health and addiction issues and aboriginal families.
Into the Wild features Somerville’s most recent body of work exploring the natural beauty of Canada’s wilderness. She has travelled around Ontario to Georgian Bay and Muskoka as well as to Northwestern Ontario, where she painted on uninhabited islands and Native reservations, always using the beauty of the landscape as a source of inspiration.
Somerville’s collection will be exhibited at Elmwood Spa until April 30th, 2012 for guests to view and purchase the one-of-a kind artwork.
Schedule your appointment by calling Jessica Wilson at 416.964.4525 ×4126 or by emailing curator@wwoa.ca. Or enjoy these beautiful creations during your next spa visit.
Stay tuned for more exciting announcements about this event’s contribution to the YWCA Elm Centre and Irma Brydson Place.
