Who says the best treatments come only from far away places? The shore of our very own Pacific coast is a cold, clean and mineral rich garden where natural ocean nutrients provide us with the richest seaweed skincare in the world. Elmwood Spa is now carrying the Sea Flora Canadian organic skin care line; a range, Marie Picton, Executive Manager, Spa Services at Elmwood Spa says is in keeping with the spa’s philosophy of providing a world of healing that is good for people and good for the planet.
Elmwood Spa is now providing three new treatments designed around the goodness of the ocean. Using the benefits of infrared sauna, wild Canadian Sea Flora seaweeds from the Pacific Northwest and lava shells from the South Pacific these three new treatments enhance health and well being.
Picton says, “I’m impressed that the Sea Flora wild seaweeds are hand harvested and that their entire spa line is 100% natural, free of dyes, animal by-products and harsh preservatives. The Sea Flora products that we’ve integrated into the new treatments we’ve designed are biodegradable, contain no artificial fragrances or colours and are not tested on animals.”
A body exfoliation with oil-free Seaweed Body Polish is followed with a refreshing shower and a 45 minute heated lava shell therapeutic massage using seaweed massage oil blend. This massage is similar to hot stone therapy in that heat helps to ease tension from your muscles deep within, and the seaweed products make it oh so luxurious. Tiger Clam Shells have a smooth rounded surface to provide even pressure and a narrow edge to target those deeper knots.
75 minutes $165
Twenty minutes in the infrared sauna increases the circulation and the body temperature; and draws out impurities. An exfoliation using oil-free Seaweed Body Polish and an application of Firming Seaweed Gel gets rid of impurities and tones the body. A warm wrap maximizes absorption of these quality products. A refreshing shower when followed by Laminaria Body Lotion leaves you feeling gloriously relaxed, and thinner. Gift to take home: a Wild Seaweed Chamois.
70 minutes $155
This treatment starts with 20 minutes in the infrared sauna followed by a Wild Rockweed Exfoliant geared to recharging the body with important minerals to increase circulation and supply nutrients to the skin. An application of Alaria Body Wrap (mask) is followed by a wrap in a thermafore blanket. A refreshing shower and a relaxing heated lava shell massage will leave you feeling totally invigorated. Your gift to take home: a Wild Seaweed Chamois.
100 minutes $185
An elegantly designed real Canadian maple wood tube, containing six sample size wild seaweed skin care products, handcrafted with fresh wild seaweeds from the outer coast of the Pacific Northwest Ocean, the Companion Wrap comes with a piece of sun-dried Macrocystis seaweed to use all over the body. The Companion Wrap for the body contains a sampler of some of Elmwood’s favourite Sea Flora therapeutic products. Take it home in a 100% biodegradable bag made from corn. Value $49

Elmwood Spa offers a world of healing including traditional European massage therapies, alternative therapies such as Reiki and Reflexology, exclusive Siam treatments from Thailand, LI’TYA healing rituals from aboriginal Australia, which are exclusive to Elmwood Spa in Canada, and now marine-based treatments incorporating infrared sauna, seaweeds, and lava shells.
“We travel around the world to investigate healing therapies and approaches. We learn and we bring this knowledge back, and incorporate it into the unique spa experiences that we design. We also seek out nutrient rich natural products that can be creatively integrated into treatments that are exclusive to Elmwood Spa,” Picton explains. “We are committed to designing a services menu with body treatments that are as therapeutic as they are relaxing. The spa’s steam rooms, whirlpool and swimming pool offer guests who sign up for a massage or a body treatment a built-in way to unwind, shed the mantle of the urban day and get the most out of each therapy. The benefits provided by infrared sauna are an important part of that experience.”
With more space than any other day spa in the region, Elmwood Spa is a complete wellness destination that caters to women and men who want stress relief and relaxation in a serene atmosphere. It is an ideal place to gather with friends, to celebrate milestones, to reconnect with a loved one, or to use as ones own destination for stress relief and self-renewal.
